Meet Benjamin Watkins

Specialising in supporting men & couples

My journey towards becoming a counsellor began in high school when I was navigating a difficult period and sought professional support. The traditional approach I experienced did not quite connect with me, but it showed me how important it is for counselling to feel personal, practical and suited to the individual.

While working in retail operations management, I often became the go-to person for creating a positive workplace culture and supporting people through challenges. This experience strengthened my interest in understanding people and ultimately led me to pursue a career in professional counselling.

Today, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and the Director and Principal Therapist of Watkins Therapy Group. I support individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, anger, relationship difficulties and significant life transitions. My experience includes working in high schools and private practice, helping adolescents and adults better understand themselves, develop practical strategies and create meaningful change.

I am also the Director of UrSpace EAP, which provides confidential counselling, workplace wellbeing support and mental health training to organisations and employees across Australia.

It is important to me that you feel comfortable and supported throughout counselling. Finding the right counsellor is an important part of the process, so if we meet and do not quite click, I will gladly help you find someone who may be a better fit.

Your comfort, trust and wellbeing are always a priority.

Favourite TV Show:

The Simpsons. I have watched every episode (most likely more than a few times). I also love Archer, Seinfeld and anything by the Working Dog crew.

Favourite Sport:

I am a keen Ten Pin Bowler and a Cricket and AFL fan. I follow the Sydney Swans and love to see them play at the “G”.

That being said, my favourite sport to watch is anything that my kids are playing.

Favourite Quote:

“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.” – T.E Lawrence

To me, this speaks of needing to be aware of your blindspots and attack your dreams and goals, being fully aware of all aspects, good and bad.

Favourite Food:

Chocolate is by far the greatest food in the world; white chocolate is my all-time favourite. Don’t even start to tell me it’s not real chocolate! Is coffee a food? If so, that would be right up there too!
